Meet No Limit: The Football Coaching Academy Inspiring Young People Across Cumbria

This week, we got the chance to speak with owner and head trainer Josh Usher from No Limit Football Coaching based in Carlisle, Cumbria. Josh launched No Limit in 2017 and has recently expanded his business by opening his own No Limit facility. No Limit offer a range of services including football coaching, fitness and skills and they focus on creating a positive atmosphere that motivates and supports young people.

No Limit have created a safe space for young people to take part in football training sessions and 121 sessions- and there is also something for everyone of all ages. Josh also got involved in creating a No Limit theme with his brother Joe Usher, which was designed to inspire young people and help support young people’s mental health during lockdown.

Showing support for mental health in sport is so important and we truly love this collaboration between No Limit and Joe. It’s a class tune and we highly recommend you give it a listen and have a watch of the video. You can find it here.

No Limit are truly dedicated to helping young Cumbrians who are interested in football or looking to develop their football skills while simultaneously supporting their drive and mental health. It is so important to get outside and take up new hobbies and with lockdown restrictions easing, No Limit could be the perfect place for you to take up something new.

We caught up with Josh to talk about the behind the scenes of No Limit and what the future holds for the No Limit team…

Tell us about why you decided to set up No Limit?

I’ve always been football crazy since I was a little kid and throughout my childhood & teen years I played at various academies. Towards the end of my teens I started to pick up a lot of injuries which hindered my playing time. I took a real interest in the coaching side of football and started volunteering in schools and coaching grassroots teams to gain as much experience as possible.

In 2017 I made the decision to start something new and came up with the idea of No Limit Football Coaching, I’ve never looked back since.

What has been the biggest achievement for No Limit so far?

The biggest achievement so far is definitely opening our own No Limit facility. The dream at the start was to have our own place for our players to come and train, it’s crazy that it’s now a reality.

What advice would you give to a young person looking to start football? Do you think football is something an individual can take up at any age?

ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY! I feel people can put too much pressure on themselves in football, always thinking about what’s next. Enjoy the moment of playing with your friends. Yes, there’s definitely something for all ages in football, it’s never too early or late to get started!

Do you think it is important for young people to have an active outlet like football? (Especially with the current Covid situation where young people are indoors frequently.)

Definitely, it’s so good for your physical & mental health. I think many players/ coaches will agree with me when I say that after all that’s happened recently, we won’t take a single second for granted going forward!

What do you find most rewarding about working as owner and head trainer of No Limit?

Being able to have an impact on so many kids lives in the local area. Whether it’s improving on the pitch or seeing a massive smile after training with us, I think I speak on behalf of all the coaches here when I say that’s the most rewarding thing by far.

We absolutely love the No Limit theme and music video that goes with it- could you tell us about this process and the theme’s importance?

Thank you, We love it too! ‘No Limit theme’ is now available on Spotify & Apple Music.

During the first & second lockdowns we were receiving messages from kids struggling to motivate themselves and having nothing to look forward to. We thought we’d make use of all the free time and create our own song to inspire the kids and give them something to look forward to when this is all over. My brother Joe Usher is a very talented singer/ actor and he wrote this amazing song for us (if you haven’t already done so, go and check him out on Spotify & Apple Music ‘Joe Usher’.) My family loves music and it annoyed me so much not being able to use any of my favourite songs on previous social media videos due to copyright, so we thought, “why not make our own?!”.

It’s never too early or late to get started.

What future plans and goals do you have for No Limit?

We are constantly looking at ways to grow & improve but at the same time we want to enjoy every moment and not get too caught up constantly in “right that’s done, what’s next?”. Again, I speak on behalf of the coaches when I say we’re living our dreams and we love what we do, so we’ll take each day as it comes.
