Creator of the Week: El Rogers

El Rogers is an 18 year old artist based in Beckermet.

El creates colourful, eye catching pieces both digitally and physically, selling their art as stickers on Redbubble.

This week, El talked to us about their art process, and what they love about creating pieces.

What first inspired you to start creating art? I think what initially inspired me when I was little was just finding it fun. There was a momentary pause in me actually making art until I was in year 6, where I started drawing these huge eyes animals, I think they were from a YouTube channel called “Fun2Draw”! Not exactly my taste now but it was brought me into art, that and cartoons.

In what ways do you think your art has developed since you started out? Wow, well I think my art developed a lot during my A-levels, I started to use more mediums so originally I was just using pencils and graphite, but then I found out I can use colour which was a turning point and a half.

Which style/medium do you enjoy creating the most? I honestly don’t know if I have a favourite! I like using yarn a lot outside of actually posting, recently gotten into crochet and weaving but traditional art and then digitalising it is my favourite way to make art and where I’m more comfortable. I think it’s just very nostalgic to me.

Do you ever struggle with motivation for your art? Oh I struggle with motivation a lot, I’m a very big procrastinator it’s pretty bad I won’t lie. I’m not sure if I’ve gotten a concrete way of working past it but I think I’m slowly getting there. I’m more organised now which helps and I try to give myself variety so I don’t get bored.

What are some future goals for your art? I really struggle with a definitive goal for the future, I really just wanna get to a place where I can make art consistently and sustain myself on it! But I’ve got a long ways to go and a lot of practice to get to that point!
