Where To Sample Cumbria's Best Food This Valentines

Take your pick of these top rated valentines date menus - As voted by TripAdvisor.

Valentines day, a celebration of romanticism and love. With a history rooted in Christianity, from the patron Saint Valentine, we all know this day very well. Exchanging gifts and giving odes to our loved ones, February is a month well remembered for chocolates, flowers and maybe even a cheeky date.

However, without a doubt one of the best perks of valentine's day is the food. Whether you’ve got a date planned, expecting a secret admirer to pop the question or if you're celebrating the love for yourself, we can all agree that a meal out is a great way to indulge in valentines day.

As such, here are some of the top rated restaurants in Cumbira for the occasion. As voted by Tripadvisor and including their menus for you to take your pick of the crop when it comes to a night out this February.

1. The Grasmere Hotel Restaurant

Winner of the Travellers’ Choice award 2021 and a Good Hotel Guide award 2021, this 5 star restaurant offers a picturesque cottage getaway with breath taking views of the river rothay in Grasmere.

A homely hotel offering deluxe, superior and standard tiers of room, this would be the perfect valentines weekend away for lovers of the lake district.

Unfortunately, the restaurant isn't open to non-residents so you’ll have to book a room to make the most of their delicious menu. Featuring Cumbrian Crab, Herdwick Lamb and Crushed Meringue, you check out their full menu below:

2. L’Enclume

Located in Cartmel, L’Enclume is also a winner of a Travellers Choice Award 2021. However, as a two star Michelin restaurant, this avant-garde eatery is sure to please.

A unique, artful take on the usual dining experience, one taking a visit to L’Enclume can reserve a meal at Aulis. Seating six people, you can get up close and personal with the chef while they cook for you at your table.

Going behind the scenes, they describe this experience as “where a deep respect for nature and the wild meets cutting edge technique, imagination and passion.”

However, you can also dine in their restaurant where Chef Simon Rogan practises his love for all things food and where was named the number 1 restaurant in the UK in 2020.

3. The Cottage In The Wood

This 17th Century converted coaching Inn lies at the heart of the UK’s only mountain forest in the middle of Winlatter. Ranking no. 24 in the UK’s top 100 restaurant list and No. 39 in the UK’s top 50 boutique hotels list, it comes at no surprise that this fine establishment also holds a Michelin star.

With chef Ben Wilkinson, locally sourced produce and over two decades of culinary experience, this is a must-visit destination this Valentines day.

They offer lunch and dinner menus but by far the most exquisite menu they advertise is their “Taste Cumbria” menu featuring meals designed by location such as Coast, Fells and Farm.

4. The Bank Of Silloth

Next up on our list is a 5 star restaurant featuring Mediterranean, European and Spanish dishes as a Tapas bar and restaurant in Wigton.

Tapas is a speciality for valentines as you can share and indulge in each other's tastes by ordering 3 dishes each and exchanging your favourite foods with one another.

With local steak, chorizo in wine, charred squid, feta al homo, blue corn tacos and a selection of paellas as just a sample of what's on offer at The Bank Of Silloth, there's a lot to sample here at this tapas bar.
