What's On in December For Sport in Cumbria?

December is usually a month of winter wonderlands and Christmas light switch-ons, but the action-packed sporting season doesn't stop in Cumbria!

Cleator Moor Celtic look to carry on their good run of form in the North West Counties Football League, and it looks like the fixtures have been kind to them.

They play on the 4th of December against league newcomers Ilkley Town, looking to avenge the 3-0 loss from the away fixture.

Up next after that, we have a Cumbrian derby when the Greens travel down the A595 to play high-flying Holker Old Boys in what will be a fantastic game to watch.

The last game before the Christmas period is a difficult home tie against Huddersfield-based Golcar United, before finishing the year on the 27th against Bacup Borough at home.

Whitehaven AFC looks to turn their season around, and with only 3 fixtures in December, the little bit of a rest bite might give them the chance.

They’ll kick off the month with a home fixture against Lytham Town on the 4th, before a 6-pointer against Slyne with Hest on the 11th.

They finish the month on the 18th with a home fixture against Vickerstown. Hopefully a win there will get Amateurs into the festive spirit!

Egremont side Windscale AFC only has two games in December (more time for some Christmas pre-drinks!) with an away tie against Coxhoe Athletic, before an abrupt end to the month the weekend after in a charity cup game at Gateshead Leam Rangers.

The football doesn’t stop there, as the Cumberland County League has two action-packed weekends of football to offer at the start of December! Find the complete fixtures below:

There’s not just football going on, however.

With the rugby league season not starting until early 2022, it’s time for the rugby union lads to shine in the Cumbria One Northern Division.

Two rounds of fixtures including two West Cumbrian derbies with Egremont taking on Workington on the 4th, and Egremont vs Millom on the 11th December.

Whitehaven RU has a tough away fixture to Creighton on the 11th in what looks to be a Christmas cracker!
